Introduction

The Woodhaven Residents' Block Association (WRBA) is the civic association of the neighborhood of Woodhaven, in Queens, New York City.

The WRBA was formed in 1972. Its official purpose at the time remains its mission today: to foster "an interest in civic, social and political affairs." The WRBA advocates on behalf of the residents of Woodhaven, promotes neighborhood spirit by bringing together residents and local leaders, and seeks to engage all in the betterment of our community.

Although the organization has a long history of working for the people of Woodhaven, it does not rest on its laurels. The WRBA is constantly evolving in response to the changing features and challenges of the neighborhood, while at the same time preserving and promoting the core features that have long made Woodhaven a haven in the city. This balance -- respecting the past while working for the future -- drives many of the organization's initiatives.

We strive to be responsive to the residents of Woodhaven. Our efforts take many forms: we are in regular touch with our elected officials to emphasize the importance of particular issues, we serve as a conduit with the 102nd Precinct to help maintain the safety and quality of life in Woodhaven, we establish programs on our own to deal with problems like the shortage of parking, and we give residents a chance to speak up and be heard at our monthly town hall meetings.

The Woodhaven Residents' Block Association holds our community leaders accountable and gives them a chance to discuss their work with constituents. We also keep residents informed of the events of other local civic organizations, and address news and issues that are relevant to the area.

As important as this work is, we also aim to instill pride and in our neighborhood and togetherness among its residents. From our splendid annual dinner-dance to smaller events held throughout the year, we try to make Woodhaven feel less like a zip code and more like a tight-knit community.

What is most important to remember is that the WRBA cannot exist without people like you. Its members make it possible for the organization to accomplish anything. Without residents showing up at town halls, attending events, or even calling the office to make us aware of occurrences in the neighborhood, the WRBA would lose its efficacy. So please, if you care about Woodhaven and want to improve your experience as a Woodhaven resident, join the Woodhaven Residents' Block Association -- the Guardian of Woodhaven.
